White crystals or crystalline powder; Molecular Formula: C₅H₁₁NO₂S; Molecular Weight: 149.21; CAS No.: 59-51-8; Sulfur-containing essential amino acid, methyl donor (SAMe), antioxidant precursor (cysteine).
Main Applications
DL-Methionine is a sulfur-containing essential amino acid that participates in the body's methyl-transfer cycle, acting through S-adenosyl methionine (SAMe) as an important methyl donor, and is also converted into cysteine, itself the precursor to glutathione, a key endogenous antioxidant. On this basis, DL-Methionine plays an important role in supporting detoxification, antioxidant defense and lipid metabolism, and is widely utilized in sports nutrition. Its primary application area, however, remains animal nutrition, where it is used in large volumes as a key sulfur-containing feed additive.
